Giselle continued staring into space, not thinking anything. Her mind was a complete blank right now. Eventually the person at the door gave up and went away. Giselle heard the footsteps sounding more and more distant, then finally nothing. All was silent in the house, except for the occasional sob that escaped from herself.
---
She cut herself off from the rest of the world, and everyone else. She was unable to face anyone, unable to face the world. She avoided all of Harper's calls, leaving him hurt and confused. Days passed and she decided to go away. To a foreign land, where nobody knew her and about her past, where she could start anew. Or so she thought.
It was hard, and it didn't get any easier. Nightmares haunted her, replaying that horrific night all over again. She isolated herself, trying to live normally, but alas, somewhere inside her she knew she, nor her life, would ever be "normal" again. What is "normal"? She didn't know anymore.
She missed all those people she left behind, Harper in particular, and her life, before everything was ruined. She badly wanted to return to her real home, and see her family and friends again, wondering how they were all doing. Did they miss her too? Did they even notice that she was gone? How was Harper doing? How did he cope with her sudden departure? So many questions ran through her mind. She considered carefully before deciding to return to her homeland, but not letting them know. She would just go back for a look, and not interrupt their lives.
It was a tough decision to make. But she knew she would not be at ease till she had the answers.
