"Concentrate!" Oded barks, causing me to lose control of my ball of gravity, sending it hurling towards a large boulder and decimating into nothingness.
The quarry is littered with holes of varying sizes, once beautiful rock formations. Yet, strangely enough, there are evidences of shattered rocks. Just well-smoothed holes that look as though they'd been there since forever.
"Sorry," I utter a quick apology, then set to work on creating another ball, "I'm trying my hardest! Why can't I have gotten something less destructive like, creating flowers out of nowhere or even talking to animals? This sucks!"
Oded sighs, then calmly explains, "You might not think that this is a useful power, but in time, it
will be. Do you think that a Psychic's ability does not have it's side effects? If anything, a violent power has one with the
least consequences. There will be times when violence will be needed, and your destructive power will be helpful, then."
I try to shrink the bowling ball-sized gravity field into the size of my palm. The translucent edges shimmer and vibrate, threatening to explode at any moment, but it shrinks. Slightly.
"Then, what does your healing ability take from you?" I ask, keeping an eye on my handiwork.
There is an odd silence, then Oded speaks, "It drains my lifeforce."
My eyes widen. I break my gravity ball, then turn around to face Oded, "What?!"
Oded sits down on the rocky floor of the quarry. Pats the ground next to him, and I take it as my cue to sit next to him. He takes my right hand, palm up, and examines the cut I got a while back, while climbing down the rocks. It's not bleeding anymore, but it still stings whenever I try to curl up my hand.
He puts his left hand on my palm, and closes his eyes, concentrating. There is a faint glow coming from between our hands, it feels warm. I can feel my cut healing up, the skin growing back together.
Then Oded raises his right hand, and shows his palm to me. A wound that looks
exactly like the one I had is carving itself into his palm, cut by an unseen force! A few drops of his blood drips onto his torn and faded jeans. I try to pull my hand away, but Oded holds tight. He is smiling, unfazed by the pain.
Then, amazingly, his cut starts to heal as well! I watch with curious horror as the skin stitches itself together, and soon the cut has faded away, leaving smooth skin once more. Oded lets go of my hand, and I see that my palm has healed as well.
I gape at him in astonishment, I never knew that that was what truly happened when Oded healed people. But Oded only smiles sadly.
"Now you know."
